Privacy Policy

SpinBook

This Privacy Policy explains how luka4 (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use the SpinBook application for Android, iOS and web (the “App”) and the website at getspinbook.com (the “Site”).

By using the App or the Site, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use them.

Last updated: September 1, 2026

1. What SpinBook does

SpinBook is a table tennis diary. You can log training sessions and matches, keep an inventory of your rubbers, blades and rackets, save the venues you play at, and — if you choose to sign in — sync all of that across your devices and connect with other players.

How much we receive depends entirely on how you use it. Without an account, your data stays on your device. With an account, the data you sync is stored on our servers.

2. Using SpinBook without an account

You do not need an account to use the diary and the inventory. In this mode your entries are stored only on your device, and we do not receive them.

Two things still apply while signed out: the App sends anonymous product-analytics events (see section 8), and if you later sign in and choose to sync, the data already on your device is uploaded at that point.

3. Information we process when you sign in

Account and sign-in. You sign in with Google or Apple. We do not offer a password-based account and we never see or store a password. From your sign-in provider we receive your email address, and — depending on what you allow — your name and profile picture. If you use Apple’s “Hide My Email”, we only ever see the relay address Apple generates.

Your profile. The username you pick, display name, avatar, playing hand, usual forehand and backhand rubber types, league team, country, and app preferences such as language, theme and skill level.

Your diary and inventory. Training sessions and matches with dates, durations, scores, competition names and stages, teams, training focus tags, and any public or private notes you write. Your rubbers, blades and rackets, including purchase and usage details, wear estimates and archive reasons. Your saved tournaments and leagues.

Photos. Images you attach to activities, to players in your roster, to feedback you send us, and your profile avatar. These are uploaded to our cloud storage when you are signed in.

Information about other people. Your diary contains names you type in yourself — opponents, partners and event participants — and optionally their playing hand, rubber types, photos and your notes about them. Many of these people are not SpinBook users and have no account with us. We store this on your behalf so your own diary works. Please only add information about other players that is reasonable for a personal training diary, and be aware that when you connect a roster entry to a real SpinBook account, or share a session, that person can see the entry.

Venues and map pins. The venue names you type and, where you choose to place one, a map pin with its coordinates. SpinBook does not use your device’s GPS and never asks for location permission. A venue is only ever recorded because you entered it. The two-letter country on your profile comes from your device’s regional settings, not from satellite or network positioning.

Usage signals that drive app features. The dates you open the App (for the daily streak), total time the App has been in the foreground on your account, and the level and experience points derived from what you have logged. These power the streak, level and leaderboard features and are part of your profile.

Tips. If you leave a tip, the purchase itself is handled by Apple or Google and by the billing partner that processes purchases for us. We never receive your card or payment details. We store a record of the purchase: which tip product, the displayed price and currency, the platform, the transaction identifier and the date.

Things you send us. Translation suggestions, feature ideas (including any photo you attach) and support emails.

4. What other people can see

This is the part most worth reading closely. Your diary is private by default. Three levels exist, and you choose the level for each session:

  • Private — visible only to you.
  • Friends — visible to SpinBook users you have accepted as friends. They see the session including its venue name and map pin.
  • Public — visible in the community feed to any signed-in SpinBook user, including people you are not connected to. Public sessions are shown without any location: the community feed does not carry the venue name, the map pin or its coordinates. Location remains visible to friends only.

Always visible to other signed-in users: your username, display name, avatar, level, experience points, country, and current daily streak appear on your community profile and in leaderboards. If you would rather not be identifiable there, choose a username and display name that do not identify you, and do not set an avatar photo.

Friends and sharing. Friend requests, your friends list, sessions you share, and matches you import from a friend are visible to the people involved. When you share a session with a friend they receive their own copy of it, which stays in their account even if you later delete yours.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

5. How we use your information

  • Run the App, your account, and sync across your devices.
  • Provide the features you choose to use — friends, feed, community, inbox, sharing, streaks, levels and recaps.
  • Estimate equipment wear from the hours you log.
  • Process tips and unlock the supporter benefits that come with them.
  • Send app announcements and the local reminders you have enabled.
  • Understand which features are used, so we can improve them (see section 8).
  • Keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
  • Reply when you contact us, and comply with the law.

6. Service providers

We keep the number of companies involved deliberately small. Everyone who processes personal data for us is listed here:

  • Our cloud provider — database, authentication and file storage. This is where your synced account data and photos live.
  • Google — sign-in with Google, map rendering in the App, and website analytics on getspinbook.com.
  • Apple — Sign in with Apple, and App Store purchases.
  • Our billing partner — processes tip purchases and supporter benefits on our behalf.
  • Our analytics provider — measures feature usage inside the App, as described below.
  • Our app build and delivery provider — builds and ships the App.

We name Apple and Google because you interact with them directly when you sign in or make a purchase. For the others we describe the role rather than the company, because the specific supplier can change; if you would like the current list by name, email us and we will tell you. These providers act on our instructions and are not permitted to use your personal data for their own marketing. Apple and Google act as independent controllers for the sign-in and payment parts of their services, under their own privacy policies.

7. Notifications

Reminders such as the daily streak nudge are scheduled locally on your device. We do not operate a push notification server and we do not collect a push token. In-app announcements are fetched by the App from our servers and filtered by platform and app version; we do not need to know who you are to send them.

8. Analytics and cookies

Neither the App nor the Site shows advertising, and we do not use advertising SDKs or ad networks.

In the App we use a privacy-focused analytics provider to count how features are used — for example that a chart was opened or an activity was added. These events carry only your platform, OS version, device language and whether you were signed in. They do not contain your name, email, diary contents or an advertising identifier, and they are not used to track you across other apps or websites.

On the website we use Google Analytics to measure visits and which links to the app stores are clicked. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and Google processes that data as described in its own privacy policy. You can prevent it by blocking cookies for this site, by using your browser’s “do not track” or tracking-protection settings, or with Google’s opt-out browser add-on. The App does not use Google Analytics.

We also keep limited server logs (for example errors and security events) to operate the service.

9. Where data is stored and international transfers

Your synced data is stored on servers operated for us by our infrastructure provider. Our providers operate facilities in several countries, so your data may be processed outside your own country, including outside the EEA and the UK.

Where that happens, we rely on safeguards recognised under applicable law — such as standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission or the UK authorities — or on an adequacy decision covering the destination country.

10. Retention and deletion

  • While your account exists we keep your account and synced data so the App works as intended.
  • Deleting your account — you can delete it in the App under Settings, or email us at support@getspinbook.com. This removes your profile, diary, inventory, photos, friendships and inbox items from our servers. Deletion requests sent by email are normally completed within 10 business days.
  • Copies held by others — a session you shared with a friend exists as a separate copy in that friend’s account and is not removed when you delete yours.
  • Local data — uninstalling the App or clearing its data removes the copies on that device. Cloud data remains until the account is deleted.
  • Support emails and records we must keep for legal, tax or security reasons (for example proof of a purchase) are retained for as long as the law requires.

11. Security

We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit, and our database enforces row-level rules so one account cannot read another account’s private data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Children

SpinBook is not directed at children under 13, or under the higher minimum age that applies in your country — in much of the EEA that is 16 unless national law sets a lower age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age.

Table tennis has many young players. If you are below the age that applies where you live, please do not create an account. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has created one, contact us at support@getspinbook.com and we will delete it promptly. Note in particular that a public community profile and any session published to the community feed are visible to every signed-in user.

13. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, receive a copy in a portable form, restrict or object to certain processing, and withdraw consent where we relied on it.

Much of this is available directly in the App: you can edit or delete any diary entry, change your profile and visibility settings, and delete your account outright. For anything else, email support@getspinbook.com and we will respond in line with applicable law.

We do not make decisions about you by automated means that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

14. Legal bases (EEA, UK and Switzerland)

If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, the GDPR and UK GDPR give you additional protections. We rely on these legal bases:

  • Performance of our agreement with you — running your account, syncing your data, and providing the friends, sharing and community features you choose to use.
  • Your consent — publishing a session to the community feed, sending a tip, attaching photos, enabling local reminders, and website analytics cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing that was lawful beforehand; changing a session back to private stops it being published from that point on.
  • Our legitimate interests — keeping the service secure, preventing abuse, understanding aggregate feature usage, and improving the App, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Legal obligation — keeping records we are required to keep, such as purchase records.

You may complain to your local data protection authority; in the UK this is the ICO (ico.org.uk). We would appreciate the chance to help first.

15. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time and will post the new “Last updated” date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your data, we will tell you in the App or by email before it takes effect where that is appropriate.
